This project will be led by Dr Amy Deacon and Ms Jennalee Ramnarine of the UWI Zoology Museum.
Beginning in October 2021, the first step will be to digitise and publish tens of thousands of specimen records from these three collections, collected over more than a century. Specimens will include thousands of native plant species and a wide variety of locally collected terrestrial and aquatic animals.
The advantages of publishing these digitally online are huge.
By the end of this project it is hoped that stakeholders will have a greater awareness of the value of these datasets for policy, conservation, research and education. Ultimately this will help T&T to protect its natural heritage for future generations.
