Earlier this month I attended the British Ecological Society (BES) Annual Meeting, which was hosted in Edinburgh this year. It was my first BES meeting, and I really enjoyed it. There were an overwhelming number of interesting talks covering a wide range of ecological topics, and some excellent plenary speakers. | Despite the size of the conference (I would guess over 1,000 delegates), it retained a friendly feel and there were various themed social activities, which were helpful for meeting people working in similar areas as well as for catching up with old friends. There was also an entire itinerary for early career scientists, spread throughout the conference and excellent poster sessions. I presented a talk about recent work from the Trinidad BioTIME project, concerning recreational disturbance and aquatic biodiversity. It may have been my first BES meeting, but I am certain that it won't be my last! |
